Sylwia Razak

Co-founder, Registered Nutritional Therapist and Health Coach

I am  a foodie who believes that good nutrition is the foundation for a healthy and happy life and that food should taste delicious and be a pleasure to eat as well as making you feel and look good. As a Registered Nutritional Therapist and Health Coach I help women to look and feel amazing every day by transforming the way they eat. I  studied at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London, I am a full member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

Additionally, I am a Zest4life health coach, trained in offering motivational coaching and group programmes.

I have had a wealth of experience working with women to transform their diets, their health and their waistlines in London and New York. Prior to re-training, I spent 5 years teaching yoga, and also in a variety of sales and marketing roles in different industries. I am a mum and an entrepreneur so I understand the challenges of combining a healthy lifestyle with a busy family life and stressful job on top of it.

As an Ambassador of Jamie's Oliver Food Revolution, I'm re-designing menus for local nurseries to make healthy and delicious food available for toddlers through their day.  I also run local talks and regular 'chop and talk' sessions to inspire people to change their habits and diets.

Penny Heywood

Co-founder, Homeopath and trainee Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

I have an eclectic background. I started off as a secondary school maths teacher and then went on to work in marketing and advertising for 15 years. I finally found my passion in homeopathy and qualified as a Classical Homeopath from Westminster University 2008. I really enjoy working with clients of all stages and ages but my special interest is working with pregnant ladies, new mums and their babies.

I have recently completed a year-long course with Denise Tiran, an Internationally renowned midwife who specialises in Complementary therapy. I ran a Birth Choices group on behalf of Lewisham Birth Centre for a year and I have been a breastfeeding peer supporter since 2014. I currently volunteer on the Postnatal Ward at Lewisham Hospital supporting new mums with infant feeding. Breast Feeding is such a basic but powerful way to impact on the health and wellbeing of both mum and baby which is why I find this work incredibly rewarding. I am now about to embark on the IBCLC (International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants) training to become a Lactation Consultant.

Homeopathy is a therapy based on treating like with like. Clients come to see me with a myriad of issues and during their consultation I seek to find a remedy that, if given in a material dose, would produce similar symptoms. Remedies are prepared in a way that there is no material dose of the original substance but the essence of the substance remains. When the remedy picture is a good match to the presenting symptoms, the remedy acts curatively. Homeopathy is a gentle form of healing acting on a mental, emotion and physical level. This makes it a powerful therapy for expectant and new mums and babies.

Sarah Lam

Co-founder, Doula and Placenta Specialist

I have four beautiful sons and four birth experiences that are as individual as they are. While I was pregnant with my second son, I discovered the role that a doula could play in contributing to a positive birth experience and realised immediately that I was not only passionate about having this for myself, but also providing it for other women and their partners.

I believe that women birth best wherever they are most comfortable, be it at home, hospital, birth centre or canal boat! I actively support the individual choices that each parent-to- be can and should make at this unforgettable time in their lives.

It was during my journey as a doula, that I discovered the life-enhancing benefits the placenta can offer for post-birth care and trained to be a placenta encapsulation specialist.  It was only after my own fourth birth that I was able to experience first hand the restorative power of the placenta.  I feel passionate about nurturing (the often neglected) post-natal recovery of both you and your baby.

Ingrid Bresnahan

Counsellor & Parenting Practitioner

Life can present you with challenges leaving you searching for ways to overcome, manage, understand and support your mental health and emotional wellbeing.  I have been married for over 27 years and have three grown up sons so know just how difficult balancing life can be.  My journey to being a counsellor started through my work in the community realising that there are times that we all need space to talk and joined with my passion for promoting emotional wellbeing I became qualified as an integrative counsellor and most recently a systemic practitioner.  I recognise the importance of a positive mind through talking therapies and have seen the changes it can make, enabling client’s to develop an increased self awareness while feeling empowered and more able to make decisions about their lives.   I understand how daunting it may be to decide to talk to a counsellor but I feel that by offering an initial appointment to get to know each other you are able to make that choice yourself.

I have over 20 years experience supporting families and young children, working for over 13 years in mental health and well being.  I have worked for Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust based in the community alongside health visiting teams offering help and guidance to new parents.  I am currently employed as a Wellbeing Practitioner in Bromley, working with children and their families.   I have extensive knowledge of family and childhood difficulties (emotional & behavioural), helping me to understand the problems people can encounter, offering a non-judgemental and empathic approach to allow space to talk through your difficulties. My background also includes training in Triple P positive parenting, sleep advice for children and managing difficult behaviours in children and young people.

When I am not working or studying I like to relax, taking time out to look after myself through walking and spending time with my family and pet greyhound.

ZAKIA MANCE

Hypnobirthing Practitioner & Naturopath

My name is Zakia Mance and I am a KG Hypnobirthing Practitioner and Naturopath. I am fluent in both French and English, and teach in both languages.

My recent training in Hypnobirthing was inspired by the birth of my son, as I was amazed at how beautiful and gentle my guided hypnobirthing experience was. I was told about hypnobirthing when I studied Naturopathy at CENATHO in Paris, so I was always keen to do it. The results were even more extraordinary than I expected. I gave birth at home in a birthing pool only using peppermint oil and some Australian Bush flower essences, and supported by my wonderful husband and two amazing NHS midwives.

I am passionate about empowering women to have the birth they want, without fear and being able to look back and have fond memories of that amazing moment. I would also support them before and after labour using my professional training in massage, aromatherapy and nutritional programmes.

I have been passionate about naturopathy and anything to do with natural remedies since the age of 12 when I myself went to see a naturopath who was also a homeopath. I love the holistic approach - we are not just bodies, we are also minds and souls - and we need to lovingly take care of all three. My favourite tools in my natural remedy case are the Australian Bush Flower essence and essential oils - they both nurture the body and the soul, and the smells are just divine.

I also enjoy studying anything to do with the mind and the psyche. I truly believe that we are finally understanding how to unlock the extraordinary powers of the mind. Hypnobirthing gives us a good start to understand how we can achieve extraordinary results by using and training the mind. I practice Mindfulness and meditate and strongly believe that "mental hygiene" and good mental health will become integral parts of our lives in the future, in schools, and at work to help us live more balance, empowered and healthy, happy lives. My other passions include art and design, and I also help my husband running his antique business online.

I really look forward to helping you achieve the birth you want!

GINA POTTS

Hypnobirthing Practitioner

My name is Gina Potts. I am a leading KG Hypnobirthing Practitioner in the South East and founder of ZenBirth. I am also a hypnobirthing mother of two beautiful hypnobabies.

My group courses take place in:

I also offer private courses across Kent and South East London, and worldwide via Skype.

I first found out about hypnobirthing in 2009, late in my first pregnancy, when a friend sent me a hypnobirthing book. Once I read the first few pages, I knew that hypnobirthing was for me. I had a surprisingly easy hypnobirth with my first baby, which you can read about here. And few years later, we enjoyed another amazing hypnobirth with our second child, who was born at home in a birth pool surrounded by the loving support of my husband and doula, plus a wonderful NHS midwife.

After my first 'zen' experience of childbirth, I decided to train to teach hypnobirthing because I realised how important it is to share the powerful tools and knowledge I had discovered. So, I founded ZenBirth in 2011 and have now taught over 300 couples. I am passionate about hypnobirthing because I have seen how it empowers women, prepares couples and helps parents give their babies wonderfully positive birth experiences.

I hold a Diploma in KG Hypnobirthing (accredited by the Royal College of Midwives) and a Certificate in HypnoBirthing (Mongan Method). Additionally, I am an NCT-trained Breastfeeding Peer Supporter. I regularly undertake ongoing study and continuing professional development. I am an active member of the Hypnobirthing Association (UK), have sat on the KG Hypnobirthing Steering Group, and have also been member of the HypnoBirthing Institute (USA). I am also commencing Diplomas in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

My previous professional experience is in higher education, having worked for over 13 years at universities in London as a researcher, lecturer and student support manager. My BA, MA and PhD degrees are all in English Literature, and my teaching and research have mainly been in women's studies. My other experience and interests include counselling, mindfulness, pottery, gardening, yoga, cooking and walking our lovely Tibetan Terrier.

My professional skills and experience enable me to deliver high quality courses, backed by research and knowledge of positive birthing, whilst also supporting couples in a relaxed and nurturing environment. Have a look at my testimonials and the birth stories to see what ZenBirth parents have had to say about me and the course.

Looking forward to meeting you on the course.

Private Midwife with Neighbourhood Midwives

I have been in Private practice for nearly 13 years, firstly as Independent then with Neighbourhood Midwives a social enterprise, developed to offer women a fully insured midwifery service. When I qualified I decided the NHS did not allow continuity of carer for women, it was very much the conveyor belt pregnancy and birth, so for me not having
time to spend with women and their family, for the woman not having the close, trusting  relationship of knowing her caregiver.

I have experience of women with many high risk pregnancies, including VBAC, breech, twins, older mums and mental health problems. I have had very good outcomes with these women with a caesarean section rate of 14% compared with a national average of 27% and better than the WHO acceptable rate of 15%.

I like to help women with relaxation techniques and being able to understand what is happening to their body during this most amazing time of their life, by giving lots of support to the woman and her partner I have a non-intervention birth rate of 80%
compared to the nationally identified rate of 42%.

I love supporting homebirth, but recognise that it is always a choice and to make the best
decision for the woman and her family.

PostNatal Doula

You've written your birth plan, but have you written your postnatal plan?

Research has found that in cultures that value rituals that provide support and care for new mothers, women have a more positive experience of the postnatal period.

As a postnatal doula, I provide practical and emotional support during the days and weeks after giving birth that allows a new mother to have a 'mothermoon' to rest and recover, enjoy this precious time with her new baby and find her way as a new mother.

I was drawn to this work because I had two very different postnatal experiences and have experienced first hand the difference that having a 'mothermoon' can make on a woman’s recovery after giving birth. After the birth of my first baby, I tried jumping back into ‘normal’ life again too quickly which resulted in feeling tired and sore and it took a long time to feel healthy and well again. After the birth of my second baby, I purposely committed to slowing down my pace of life for the first six weeks after giving birth in order to focus on healing myself and focusing on getting to know my new baby and I felt so much better for it.

In addition to my work as a postnatal doula, I am also an experienced antenatal teacher who has supported over two hundred parents to prepare for birth and early parenthood. I am also a breastfeeding peer supporter where I provide a listening ear and support that empowers women with the information they need to overcome challenges relating to breastfeeding.  These experiences combine to form a wealth of knowledge about women and their needs in the postnatal period.

For more information about my packages/rates/availability please get in touch. I also offer a free 30 minute phone/skype call to give us a chance to chat so you can decide if I'm the right person to support you during this special time.

I look forward to helping you have the start to motherhood that you deserve!

Suki Chung

Massage Therapist

I run a company called Blissful Thinking and I have a passion for all things massage and well-being.  I’ve been a massage therapist for over 10 years and I never stop learning new techniques to help you just feel better.  I’m currently undertaking a degree level massage course because I just can’t get enough. I feel so fortunate to be able to do a job that I love and share my passion with clients to help not only chronic pain conditions, but general relaxation and increasingly, more and more pregnancy massage and maternity reflexology.

Pregnancy and motherhood takes its toll on your body. Having 2 children myself, I know first hand how exhausting and overwhelming motherhood can be. You go from aches and pains as your body changes throughout pregnancy, to different aches and pains when your beautiful baby is born.  Holding patterns in your posture from feeding your baby or just holding baby for long periods of time can be quite debilitating and really cause you pain in your back.  Massage not only helps relax and loosen up those postural muscles, but studies show that massage can help with anxiety and depression by calming your nervous system, which in turn releases those all important ‘feel good’ hormones.

Pregnancy and post natal massage are my favourite treatments to give.  Couple that with some reflexology and you will feel so much calmer, and you can totally have a cheeky nap while you’re on the couch.

Natelie Henriques

Doula and Maternity Massage Therapist

During my pregnancy I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe sickness), which was really debilitating and depressing, coupled with the birth of my son being extremely traumatic. The whole experience had a profound impact on my life and was certainly an education. I learnt that if I had been more self-empowered and more knowledgeable, many things could have been different, and I would not have felt so confused and let down by the care I had received and the decisions that were made about my care. This impacted the early postnatal period for me and my son so, although my experience was negative, I was fortunate to have the care of my husband and family. All the while, in the back of my mind, I would think what would I have done had I not had this level of support; what do women do who don't? Once I had healed and worked on myself, this became the inspiration for my work with pregnancy, birth and beyond supporting women, babies and fathers.

I developed my Pregnancy / Postnatal Massage practice in 2007 and named it Mother & Bump. I then organically moved into working as a Doula in 2009, after often being asked by clients to help keep them calm for early labour so they did not arrive at the hospital too soon. I officially trained with Nurturing Birth and then began the recognition process with Doula UK.

I love my work at Mother & Bump. I love the variety  that I can offer my clients many different things; it also keeps my work fresh and interesting and is my passion. My pregnancy based work naturally led me into working with babies, teaching baby massage to parents and carer’s, one-to-one and in groups, and working with parents supporting as a Postnatal Doula.
